Although skittle pool was originally played on a pocketless carom billiards table, the term ‘pool’ eventually became associated with all new pocket billiards games as they grew in popularity. So, outside of the cue sports industry which still prefers to call it pocket billiards, most people just refer to it as ‘pool’.
