Well, IR stands for Infrared and FTIR stands for Fourier Transform Infrared. Basically, FTIR takes the raw signal from an interferogram and uses it to measure light intensity based on the position of a mirror inside the interferometer. That’s different from dispersive instruments which measure light intensity based on wavelength. Got it?
